Residents across Northern Cyprus are set to pay more for bread after a new price increase raised the cost of a standard loaf from 24 Turkish lira to 28 TL.
The latest increase comes shortly after authorities approved a major rise in LPG cooking gas prices, which bakery owners say has significantly increased production costs. According to local reports, the price of a 10-kilogram LPG cylinder jumped from 650 TL to 815 TL, adding further pressure on bakeries already struggling with rising fuel and operational expenses.
This marks the second bread price increase in 2026. Earlier this year, in February, the price of bread had already increased from 20 TL to 24 TL.
Fuel prices in both Türkiye and North Cyprus have also continued climbing in recent months, affecting transportation, flour delivery, electricity usage, and bakery operations. Experts say rising energy costs remain one of the main reasons behind the growing prices of basic food products.
Bread is considered one of the most important daily food items for many families in North Cyprus, meaning even a small increase can heavily affect household budgets — especially for larger families purchasing several loaves each day.
The new 28 TL pricing reportedly came into effect on Monday.
