Residents across several areas in North Cyprus experienced temporary water interruptions between May 12 and May 13 following maintenance and repair works linked to the Turkey–TRNC water supply system.
According to local announcements, the interruption was connected to technical works on the water distribution network supplying parts of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The issue affected daily activities for many residents, with some areas reporting reduced water pressure while others experienced complete temporary cuts.
The Turkey–Northern Cyprus water pipeline project, which has supplied water from Turkey to North Cyprus since 2015, remains one of the island’s most important infrastructure systems for drinking water and irrigation.
Authorities advised residents to use water carefully during the maintenance period until supply gradually returned to normal. The interruption also renewed discussions among citizens about the growing pressure on water infrastructure during the busy summer season, especially as temperatures rise and demand increases.
Water management continues to be a major issue in Cyprus due to limited rainfall and increasing consumption across the island.
