
A deadly industrial fire at a biodiesel production facility in Mersin’s Akdeniz district has left one worker dead and another injured, according to local reports.
The incident took place in the Kazanlı area on Wednesday afternoon when a fire reportedly broke out inside a fuel tank at the factory. Emergency teams, including firefighters, medical crews, and police units, were quickly dispatched to the scene as thick smoke rose above the industrial area.
Authorities said 47-year-old worker Süleyman Güner was working on top of the tank during the incident. He reportedly fell from a height of nearly 20 meters while the fire spread across the facility. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he later died from his injuries.
Another worker was also injured during the incident and received medical treatment for hand injuries.
Firefighters continued battling the flames for hours before bringing the situation under control. Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether safety procedures were properly followed.
The incident has renewed discussions online about workplace safety and industrial risk management in heavy production facilities across Türkiye.
